2010 - THE Year to Visit Turkey

Istanbul has been awarded The European Capital of Culture for 2010. This title has been designated by the European Union for a period of one year and gives Turkey, and Istanbul in particular, a chance to showcase its cultural life and cultural development. In the past a number of European cities have used the City of Culture year to transform their cultural offerings and, their internationally reputation.

A study from the European Commission by Robert Palmer (Palmer Study - 2004) indicated that the choice of European Capital of Culture served as a catalyst for the cultural development and the transformation of the city. So 2010 could be a great year to get your first taste of Turkish culture and for those who are returning, a great year to see the changes taking place.
